"The Inspector" (ISTJ)

Sample Person

ISTJs tend to be quiet and serious people known for dependability. They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially when they are responsible or interested in a situation. They can be absolutely trusted to keep their word.

ISTJs are most at home with facts, plain and simple. They are precise and accurate in all their work, with the ability to absorb, retain and use a vast amount of data. They like to take a step-by-step approach to their work, preferring to follow established routines or set procedures. Noted for their devotion to duty, they are the most punctual of types. You can set your clock by an ISTJ.

Extraordinary concentration is another special ability of this type. They are able to work alone without the need for socializing. On the job, they are dependable, stable and always follow through.

They can be trusted to maintain organizations, to make tough decisions and to stick with those decisions. They are devoted to their families and often associate themselves with established institutions, including social clubs, government, schools, the military and churches. Male ISTJs, in particular, may be involved with youth organizations, as Scoutmasters, for example. They enjoy attending traditional ceremonies and celebrations, such as weddings and holiday gatherings.

"We do it this way because we've always done it this way" is a typical ISTJ statement. They may have trouble adapting to change. Before they accept a new idea, they want to see a practical application for it.

Others sometimes find the ISTJ a little aloof and no-nonsense. On the other hand, ISTJs sometimes have trouble understanding people who are different than they are. They are easily frustrated by inconsistency, hating it when others do not keep their commitments. They rarely share their feelings unless they are asked. When that happens, they can be blunt. On the other hand, ISTJs often underestimate their own worth and are hurt by criticism.
